Mustangs started production in 1965. The two steated Thunderbirds were declining in sales. So Ford designed a four seated sports car which started production in 1965. This new sports car was affordable for everyone at the time. It was first availble in coupe or convertible forms. It sold a lot more cars in its deput than the Chevy Camaro. There are over 30 different kinds of Mustangs but some notable ones are the Mustang GT, Cobra, Saleen, Shelby, and just normal V8's and V6's mustangs. The Ford Mustang is the most popular muscle car since 1965. It crushs its competiton which is Dodge Challenger and the Chevy Camaro. The Ford Mustangs have affordability and quality has been the best for 35 years and with releasing new models in 2010 it seems like they will beat the competiton again.

A 1965 Shelby Mustang just recently sold for 875,000 at a auction. The mustang with the highest sticker price was the 2008 Shelby Mustang GT500K of 82,000. Only 571 of these cars were availble for sale in the US. In 1965 the Mustang won the Tiffany Gold Medal for excellence in American design, which was the first automobile to win the award. In 2005 it was runner-up for The North American Car of the Year. In 2005 it also won Canadian Car of the Year. Some of these awards were firsts for any American automobile.
Carroll Shelby:
Carrol Shelby was a very sucessful in designing cars and engines. In the 1950's he was a racecar driver but retired for health reasons. After his racing career he imported a British sports car that was in the works of being created. He made a few changes to the body design and installed a Ford engine. He presented his modified sports car to Ford Motor Company and aproved of it and added to their newly created Mustang line. He left Ford Motor Company and helped develop cars for Dodge and Oldsmobile.Ford is still useing some of his ideas for production cars and pace cars for Nascar today. His designs added value and quality to the Mustang name.

A Ford V8 engine is one of the most powerful engines in the street legal cars in 60's, 70's and 80's. The Camaros and Challengers just stick with basic V6 engines until the late 1980's while Mustangs had the option of a V8 engine since they were created. The elegant designs of the Mustang from the 1960's are still loved today and used in designs today while Camaros and Challenger's designs were changed almost every year when a new model came out. Mustangs from the 1960's and 70's are still being sold for record auction prices today while Camaros and Challengers have low after sale values since the designs were changed so many times. The many different designs and models of Mustangs allow people to have a variety of choices while Camaros and Challengers have no more than 5 models availble for purchase.
